Sanders scores Vado victory

XR Dominator at Salina Highbanks Speedway Up Next

HAPPY, Tex. (03/17/25) – Rodney Sanders picked up his first win of the season on Friday when he triumphed on the opening night of the Winter Meltdown at Vado Speedway Park aboard his Wichita Tank Racing / Paulson Rock Products / Stussy Construction No. 20 MB Customs Race Car / Hatfield Racing Engine Modified.

The Happy, Texas, native bested Vado’s hometown standouts, Jake and Fito Gallardo, to secure the $2,000 preliminary victory in Friday’s opener.

“It feels great to get our first win of the year," Sanders said. "We've been really consistent with USMTS this season, so it's pretty awesome to be standing here. With a big race coming up this weekend at Salina Highbanks Speedway, it’s perfect timing to carry some momentum into that event. Bringing that massive payday back to Texas would be a huge boost for our program."

Sanders, who was part of a 28-car USRA Modified field at the 3/8-mile track, opened his evening with a fifth-to-second run in his heat race. He started third in the 25-lap, $2,000-to-win feature and took the checkered flag ahead of Jake Gallardo, Fito Gallardo, C.J. Hulsey and Carlos Ahumada Jr.

On Saturday, Sanders remained strong as 26 USRA Modifieds descended on Vado for the $3,000-to-win Winter Meltdown finale. After driving from eighth to fourth in his heat, Sanders began the 25-lap A-Main from seventh on the grid. He moved ahead four positions in the race to round out the podium behind Ahumada Jr. and Mark Smith. Jake Gallardo and Nick Rivera finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Sanders is slated to return to action this weekend for the XR Dominator at Salina Highbanks Speedway. The massive highly anticipated doubleheader begins with preliminary races on Friday, culminating in Saturday’s $100,000-to-win finale.
