Sanders competes in Modified and B-Mod at XR Big Deal
Rodney Sanders steered two cars in two classes during the XR Big Deal at the 3/8-mile Ogilvie (Minnesota) Raceway on Friday and Saturday with varying results.
In the Modified class, Sanders piloted his familiar Wichita Tank Racing No. 20 in the 59-car field. He clocked the fifth-quickest time in his group during Friday’s qualifying session and went from third to second in his heat race. As a result, he locked into the next night’s $125,000-to-win feature.
Sanders started Saturday’s 60-lap main event from the 11th position and broke a shock on the first lap, forcing an early retirement. He came home in 23rd place.
Sanders also piloted a Kyle Brown Motorsports No. 21k machine in the 82-car B-Mod ranks at Ogilvie. He qualified third in his group on Friday and took fifth in his heat race that night.
Saturday saw Sanders finish as runner-up in his B-Main, starting him 16th in the 40-lap, $25,000-to-win B-Mod feature. He rocketed forward 12 spots and finished fourth behind Aaron Johnson, Cody Thompson and Ethan Braaksma. Gabe Hodges rounded out the top five.
