Rodney Sanders takes on Texas World Dirt Track Championship
Texas native Rodney Sanders kicked off two consecutive weekends of racing in the Lone Star State on Friday and Saturday with a pair of Modified starts at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track. He competed in 70-car fields each night and nearly grabbed victory in the Texas World Dirt Track Championship opener at the Fort Worth-area facility.
On Friday, Sanders steered his MB Customs No. 20 Modified from third to first in his heat race on the 4/10-mile oval. He started the 15-lap feature from the third position and came home as runner-up, 2.397 seconds behind Stormy Scott. Cade Dillard, Colby Smith and Kyle Slader completed the top five.
For Saturday’s 30-lap, $4,000-to-win main event, Sanders rolled off from the second spot. He led the race’s first 17 circuits but soon suffered an issue and dropped to a 17th-place finish.
