Sanders wins in Limited Mod at Route 66, grabs pair of top-5 finishes in ARMS competition
Rodney Sanders pulled double duty at Route 66 Motor Speedway on Friday and Saturday. He picked up his 12th feature victory of the year with a triumph in USRA Limited Modified competition, while he finished no worse than fourth with the USRA American Racer Modified Series (ARMS).
In Limited Mod action, Sanders drove the Chance McDaniel No. 02 machine in a 30-car field at the 3/8-mile track in Amarillo, Texas. On Friday, he grabbed the runner-up spot in his heat race and advanced from ninth to fourth in his qualifier.
After the redraw, Sanders started second in Saturday’s 20-lap, $2,500-to-win feature. He wired the field, taking the victory 3.322 seconds ahead of Jeffrey Kaup. Travis Graves, Timmy Johnson and Harold White IV completed the top five.
Meanwhile, Sanders piloted his ARMI Contractors No. 20 Modified in the ARMS Texas Two-Step. He was one of 49 Modified drivers racing on Friday, while 46 entries were at the track on Saturday.
Sanders was runner-up in his Friday heat, putting him 10th on the grid to begin the 30-lap, $4,000-to-win A-Main. He advanced six positions to finish fourth behind Tanner Mullens, Stormy Scott and Kale Westover. Fifth place went to Hunter Sandy.
During Saturday’s finale, Sanders took fifth in his heat and fourth in his B-Main, putting him deep in the field to start the $6,000-to-win main event. He rocketed forward 22 positions in the 35-lapper and finished as runner-up, 1.539 seconds behind Reece Solander. Tyler Davis, Jason Hughes and Scott completed the top five.
