Sanders posts 3 top-5 finishes at Heart O' Texas Speedway
Three consecutive nights of racing in his home state of Texas were on the docket for Rodney Sanders from Thursday through Saturday. Competing at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Elm Mott, Sanders finished no worse than fourth in his ARMI Contractors No. 20 Modified.
The action began on Thursday with the $2,000-to-win USRA American Racer Modified Series (ARMS) season opener, bringing 51 cars to the quarter-mile oval. Sanders was runner-up in his heat race, then drove from his 11th-place starting position to finish third in the 30-lap feature. He rounded out the podium behind Tanner Mullens and Jim Chisholm, with Carlos Ahumada Jr. and Kale Westover finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
On Friday, the Summit USMTS National Championship season kicked off with 48 Modifieds in the Elm Mott track's pit area for the first night of the 10th annual Texas Winter Nationals. Sanders won his heat, positioning him fourth to start the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win A-Main. He picked up two spots in the race and came home as runner-up, taking the checkered flag 0.510 seconds behind Jim Chisholm. Third place went to Mullens, with Joe Chisholm taking fourth and Kyle Stricker finishing fifth.
Another $5,000-to-win USMTS program the next night brought 43 cars to Heart O' Texas Speeway. Sanders was strong again from the start as he took second in his heat. He started third and finished fourth in the 40-lap main event, crossing the start-finish line behind Joe Chisholm, Mullens and Terry Phillips. Reece Solander claimed the fifth spot.
Through one weekend of USMTS competition in 2025, Sanders sits third in the point standings.
