Rodney Sanders claims runner-up result at Texas Spring Nationals
Texas native Rodney Sanders competed in his home state for the second consecutive week on Friday as the Summit USMTS schedule shifted to Rocket Raceway Park. The driver known as “The Rocket” turned in a second-place result in the 15th annual Texas Spring Nationals at the 3/8-mile track.
Forty-three USMTS Modified teams were at the facility in Petty, Texas, for the evening's $5,000-to-win program. Sanders drove his Wichita Tank Racing No. 20 machine to fourth in his heat race, then picked up the victory in his B-Main. He started 14th in the 40-lap feature and climbed through the field to grab the runner-up spot, taking the checkered flag 0.483 seconds behind winner Kyle Strickler. Jim Chisholm was third, with Tyler Davis and Trevor Hughes finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
Saturday’s slated $5,000-to-win program at Rocket Raceway Park was rained out.
Through three races in the 2025 Summit USMTS season, Sanders has finished no worse than fourth, putting him atop the point standings.
