Sanders turns in pair of top-10 results at Lucas Oil Speedway
From Thursday through Saturday, Rodney Sanders was among more than 70 Summit USMTS Modified competitors seeking the King of America crown at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri. He claimed a best finish of fifth in his Stussy Construction/Paulson Rock Products No. 20 Modified across three days of racing.
On Thursday, Sanders began King of America XIV at the 3/8-mile “Diamond of Dirt Tracks” with a third-place effort in his heat race. He won his B-Main and rolled off 15th to start the 30-lap, $3,000-to-win feature. He moved ahead 10 positions and finished fifth behind Cade Dillard, Terry Phillips, Keith Foss and Tanner Mullens. Sanders’ climb through the field earned him the night’s FK Rod Ends Hard Charger award.
The next night, Sanders won his heat from the pole and began the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win A-Main from the ninth spot. He came home in the 21st position.
Saturday saw Sanders win one of three qualifying features to earn a spot in the night’s 60-lap finale paying $20,000 to win. He started 10th in the main event and finished a solid sixth.
With King of America XIV in the books, Sanders sits third in the USMTS National Championship standings.
